Although the
Hustle originated in
the 1970s,
enthusiasts have
kept this dance
fresh by adapting it
to modern music and
inventing new
steps..
In
1975 a line dance
called the Hustle
became popular
world-wide, inspired
by Van McCoy and the
Soul Symphony's
song, "The
Hustle."
Eventually
this line dance
would inspire other
dances, including
the Electric Slide
and, sometime around
1980, a partner
dance that was
eventually referred
to as "New York
Hustle"--the
dance we teach
today.
Hustle
is a fun dance with
lots of rotation and
turns. It has also
been influenced by
Salsa dancing. Today
Hustle is often
danced to old-school
disco, modern techno
or dance music, or
even hip hop.
