Where the South Bay Learns to Ballroom Dance

Hustle

Although the Hustle originated in the 1970s, enthusiasts have kept this dance fresh by adapting it to modern music and inventing new steps..

In 1975 a line dance called the Hustle became popular world-wide, inspired by Van McCoy and the Soul Symphony's song, "The Hustle."

Eventually this line dance would inspire other dances, including the Electric Slide and, sometime around 1980, a partner dance that was eventually referred to as "New York Hustle"--the dance we teach today.

Hustle is a fun dance with lots of rotation and turns. It has also been influenced by Salsa dancing. Today Hustle is often danced to old-school disco, modern techno or dance music, or even hip hop.

These videos show what you'll learn in your first Hustle class!
