Group classes are a great, inexpensive way to learn ballroom dance. There
are a variety of different types of group classes.
Four-Week (Monthly) Series Classes
Because they meet once a week for four weeks in a row, series classes
provide continuity and consistency. Each week the instructor reviews
the previous week's dance steps and then goes on to teach new steps.
To reserve your spot in these very popular classes and help us keep the
ratio of men to women even, please sign up for our group classes in
advance!
Dance Party Drop-In Classes
Dance Parties offer a way to learn to dance in a social situation while
having a great time! Every Friday night, we pick two dances for our 8pm
newcomer drop-in class. You don't need to have any experience and you
don't have to bring a dance partner--just bring yourself and a pair of
comfortable shoes!
When the class is finished, the party begins. At 9:15, you'll be ready
to dance! Our DJ will play a selection of popular music and classic hits
that are just right for an evening of ballroom dancing.
For experienced dancers, there is a simultaneous 8pm Intermediate drop-in
class. Throughout the month we schedule student performances, teacher
demonstrations, and dance cards so you can dance with our fabulous
teachers! Our dance parties end at 11:30pm.
Performance Classes
Got the urge to perform? San Jose DanceSport Center organizes semiannual
recitals. Many students perform with their private lesson instructors, but
if you are not currently taking private lessons, or perhaps just want to
perform in more than one number, join the Adult Performance class, offered
in the weeks leading up to the show! Your instructor will compose and teach
a formation routine for you and the others in the class.
The next performance class will be offered on Mondays at 9:15pm, beginning
on March 24th. This class runs for 8 weeks and will be taught by
Jennifer Davis. The style will be Foxtrot, so some basic knowledge of Foxtrot
steps and technique is required.
Technique Classes
Our technique classes enable students to work on the details needed to take
their dancing to the next level. Whether you would like to improve your social
dancing or your competitive dancing, these classes will help you.
Our Saturday Drop-In technique class starts at 12:30pm sharp! Be prepared for
an hour of fun, sweat, and learning. This style of this class allows you to
focus on yourself! The class, taught by Monika Olejnik, alternates between
ballroom one week and latin the next. You'll work on Styling, footwork, hip
action, posture, presentation and more! This class is perfect for all ages and
levels and no partner is necessary.
Our students often tell us
that our Technique Classes are like a private lesson at a group class price!
Wedding Dance Boot Camp
Our Wedding Dance Boot Camp is a three-hour class that gets you dancing and
gives you the knowledge you need to make your wedding dance fun and memorable!
If you have a song picked out, bring it to the Boot Camp for an evaluation and
suggestions from our instructor. If you haven't found a piece of music, you'll
hear examples of dance music. You'll also learn the basics of the most popular
wedding dances--Waltz, Rumba, Foxtrot, and Night Club Two-Step.
Our Wedding Dance Boot Camps are planned based on demand, so if you're interested
give us a call today!
